Jan 12th 2017

Haven taken a critical study of Nigerian government policies, JCI Benin Metro resolved to launch a Sensitization Project tagged “Think Nigeria Out Of Recession “Campaign Project.

The Sensitization project began on the 9th January 2017, with a walk round major streets in Benin metropolis which climaxed at the NUJ Secretariat. The walk was in order to sensitize the Nigeria Government and people on the need for all hand to be on deck to revive our ailing economy and reawaken the consciousness of Nigerians towards thinking about the economy at all times

The current economic recession has caused serious hardship on the people without recourse to the resources Nigerians have, prices of food stuffs and other important goods and services have gone higher to the extent that people hardly feed. JCI Benin Metro has deemed it necessary to call on government at all levels as well as cooperate organization and individuals to see the urgent need to jointly fight the cause for the development of the society. Thus, getting out of recession, all hands must be on deck to vigorously address the trend without sentiment.

In a nutshell, since Agriculture is one of the cardinal priorities of the Nigerian Government led by President Mohammedu Buhari, the Federal Government as a matter of masses interest and urgent importance, work out modalities to release soft loans to Farmers and Small /Medium Scale Enterprises to boost the Economy and declare a state of emergency on the power sector.

Other areas of recommendation to enable Nigerian Government confront the recession head on includes formulation of policies of price control system to curb the excesses of those inflating the prices of goods and services, patronize made in Nigeria products  which will help boost our GDP, Federal/States/Local Government should encourage local production , Government should boost employment ,embark on infrastructural reforms, protect fiscal sustainability at all cost ,producing  instead of consuming e.t.c.

Other partners involves in this sensitization project includes NUJ, Youth/Student Bodies, Civil Society Organizations ,NGO’s  and other relevant Government Agencies/Parastatals. For us as young Active Citizens ,the quest to liberate Nigerians from the current recession they are being faced with just began.
