JCI BENIN METRO CELEBRATES WORLD CANCER DAY

Feb 5th 2017

World Cancer Day was declared by United Nations and is been commemorated by Citizens across the globe on  the 4h of February in order to raise the consciousness of Citizens on the effect of Cancer which has claimed countless numbers of life. Research conducted reveals that Citizens pay little or no attention to the deadly scourge due to lack of awareness/information. Thus, haven realize to bridge the information gap, JCI Benin Metropolitan resolved to commemorate this year World Cancer Day as a tool to increase awareness in a bid to mobilize citizens to prevent Cancer. Notwithstanding, the Cancer awareness took place at a popular and populated Market (New Benin Market) in Benin City wherein the Chairman/Chairlady and Traders of the aforesaid Market were on ground to received us for the takeoff of the project at about 9:00am. A walk round the Market reveals that majority of the Market dwellers were unaware of the causes and perhaps prevention to the scourge but with our awareness they (the traders) admitted their ignorance and pledged their support to increase awareness on the causes and prevention of Cancers.

Highlights of the awareness outreach were the distributions of awareness materials to traders of the Market.
